The Akufo Addo administration has written back to the British Airways Group rejecting a decision to slightly alter the flight route between Accra and London.
In a memo, Ghana’s Aviation Ministry lamented that British Airways had decided to switch the London-Accra-London route from the Heathrow Airport to Gatwick Airport without recourse to the government of Ghana.
“At the said meeting, the BA team promised to provide further information and data analysis to support its reason for the changes of its services from London-Heathrow-Airport to London-Gatwick-Airport and to enable the Government of Ghana to take a final position on the matter. The BA team is yet to provide any information as promised,” parts of the memo published in the media revealed.
If the airline’s decision stands, it means flights from London to Accra will originate and end at the Gatwick Airport instead of Heathrow.
The Aviation Ministry is asking the Airport to rescind its decision and, “respect the position of the Government of Ghana and uphold the mutual interest of both countries”.
