NPP MP-Elect For Adanse Asokwa Allegedly Locked Up In The UK

It is emerging that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is having one of its 137 MPs-elect trapped in the UK, which is having a lockdown because of the resurgence of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

According to the information, Kwabena Tahir Hammond, MP-elect for Adanse Asokwa, traveled to The Queen’s land for medical attention when it became necessary for many countries in the EU, including the UK, to lockdown in response to the second wave of Covid-19 infections.

If this is true, then it means that the ruling NPP will have 136 MPs in Parliament tomorrow to be sworn in. with Parliament almost hung between the NDC and NPP (37 MPs apiece) any such absence by KT Hammond would be crucial for the NPP.

And if K.T. Hammond is indeed out of the jurisdiction and misses swearing-in, it is not clear whether he can be sworn in at a later date.

Meanwhile, the NDC’s 137 strength is likely to reduce to 136 following a surprise injunction that was placed on the party’s MP-elect for Assin North, James Gyekye Quayson.
