UNESCO Demands Update On Investigation Into Killing Of Ahmed Suale

An organ of the United Nations, UNESCO, has asked the Akufo Addo administration for an update into the 2019 assassination of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein Suale.

The organ’s Representative to Ghana, Abdou Rahamane Diallo, made the request while speaking at a regional consultative meeting on the safety of journalists in Kumasi.

“We urge Ghana to inform us [UNESCO] on the status of the killing of Ahmed Suale. We just heard from the Deputy Minister of Information on updates of these investigations, and we are following and encouraging that efforts be pursued to make sure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to the book,” Mr. Diallo said.

President Akufo-Addo and the Jubilee House became main suspects in the brutal killing of Suale after a secretly recorded video of the President reportedly taking a US$40,000 bribe from an associate of the slain journalist, who happened also to be a namesake.

Yakubu Suale was a stablemate of Suale at Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI.

Using the same modus operandi of Suale and Anas, Yakubu insists that he had secretly recorded President Akufo-Addo receiving the bribe in a brown envelope from the wife of the Director of Urban Roads, Alhaji Abas Awolu.

Awolu had been constrained to pay the bribe, according to investigations because, the President’s party hawks were pressuring him to sack Awolu on allegations that he was an NDC man.

Yakubu, who is a member of the NPP had done the recording out of anger because Awolu is a friendly relation, who had helped Akufo-Addo’s campaign with money and T-shirts while Akufo-Addo was in opposition before 2016.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the NDC, after Yakubu had done the recording, word about it got to the NPP and the ruling party started hunting for the person behind the video.

Mistaking Ahmed Suale for Yakubu Suale, the government allegedly sent hired guns after the journalist. The murderers waylaid him in traffic and shot him point-blank before taking off.

Following the revelations, the NPP has been trying to explain the video away as a concoction of the NDC, but Yakubu Suale has made it clear he is an NPP man who once contested for Parliamentary elections on the ticket of the NPP.

Meanwhile, Deputy Information Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide, who had been at the same program with the UNESCO rep had repeated the government’s promise that it is working to apprehend the suspects of the dastardly shooting of Ahmed Suale
