The founder and the 2020 Presidential Candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has been accused by his party’s parliamentary candidates of grand deception and fraud.
Akpaloo, a man widely perceived as being bankrolled by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), is being accused of taking filing fees in their names and pocketing them.
“We know he has been supported. He was given filing fees for all of us but we didn’t get anything from him…,” fired Madam Gifty Hammond, LPG’s failed PC for Ayawaso Central.
At a press conference in Accra on Monday, aggrieved parliamentary candidates of the LPG under the umbrella of CPCLPG also accused Akpaloo of misleading them into taking loans to file for their nominations with the promise to pay them back.
Akpaloo has reportedly gone into hiding after the elections in which LPG only managed to secure some 0.05% of total votes cast.
The National Organizer of LPG Mr. Fletcher Lartey demanded Akpaloo to reimburse the aggrieved candidates their lost monies immediately.
“We are not begging him to come and feed us. We are feeding our families already. The money he asked us to go for is what we are asking for,” Lartey warned.
Among others, Kofi Akpaloo is alleged to have received vehicles and money from the Akufo-Addo campaign for the election.
