Tension In Police Service As Honeymoon Salary Increase Is Reversed

Police officers and some security agencies are beside themselves with anger for what they describe as deception by the Akufo Addo administration after they noticed that their December Salaries have gone back to “factory settings” from the 200% increments they received in November 2020.

Some of the officers have taken to social media to bitterly lament how their December salaries have been drastically slashed, barely two weeks after the December 7 elections that they policed.

It appears, the unsolicited salary increases in November was a ploy by the government to buy their loyalty during the elections, and after they have dispensed their election-related duties, they have been sent back to their previous status.

According to some of the reports gathered by Whatsup News, the salary increases were unexpected as well as the sudden reduction.

No official explanation has been given yet, but some of these officers are already disappointed in the turn of events.

One post read: “John Mahama predicted that; He actually said many of the freebies announced by government including the unannounced salary increments were to win votes. November Pay was prompt. December, our hopes have been dashed. A huge slap in the face. Removal from CAP 30 is next.”

Another Facebook message from a man believed to be a policeman read: “Dear Nana Addo and IGP. The salary adjustment that was paid to Police Officers in November and was publicly announced. Please come out and make it public again that it has been removed after the elections.”
