Government is looking at opening up the country again so international travel can resume even though the country is still not yet out of the woods in respect of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Consequently, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has issued protocols to guide the safe reopening of the country’s only international airport, Kotoka, to international travel.

Per the protocols, Management of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) must ensure that “temperature monitoring continues at both arrival and departure terminals.”

Management is also to ensure “compulsory mask wearing for all passengers (both arriving and departing) as well as staff”.

Also, the managers of Kotoka are to ensure the strict adherence to physical distancing protocols while the arrival and departure halls, along with the environs of the airport must be kept sanitized.

As of May 1, domestic flights had begun. However, international flights had remained on lockdown to ensure that new international coronavirus cases are not imported into the country.

According to the GHS KIA must “ensure social distancing and compulsory mask-wearing at the car parks and in front of all terminals.”
