Nana Wereko Addo, alias “Choman”, a former bodyguard to President Nana Akufo-Addo and the founder of the controversial militia arm of the governing party has threatened to beat up Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a viral video seen by Whatsup News, Choman was unequivocal in his threats to beat up the NDC communications officer who had warned that all crooked military and police officers would be dismissed if his party wins power in the December general elections.
“You’ve never been beaten in politics before, that’s why you talk anyhow and always run your mouth. Are you a man? If there is a scuffle in Ghana right now you will run away, the likes of President Akufo-Addo and others have fled during a melee, so stop the childish comments you make when on radio,” he said.
Choman is the founder of the 5000-man strong militia group (De-Eye Group) reportedly funded by the governing NPP.
Following a report made by Whatsup News on September 26 2018, Joy FM launched an undercover investigation that led to the uncovering of the De-Eye Group which was given the privilege of undertaking their military-style training at the former presidential lodge at the Christianburg Castle in Osu-Accra.
Choman in the latest viral video, hinted at the governing party having a gang of “macho men” who are a match for alleged militia groups owned by the opposition NDC.
This latest hint at violence is coming in the heels of several violent actions taken by agents and appointees of the NPP, the latest being the alleged shooting into a crowd of voters at a registration centre in Kasoa by the Minister of Special Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson.
Security experts have issued a strong warning that the posture of the governing party is likely to throw the general elections in December into a full-scale outbreak of violence.
For instance, appointees of the governing party have expressed full support for Hawa Koomson, saying she fired her gun in self-defence. This is despite the fact that she was accompanied by a full detachment of police bodyguards who were responsible for her safety.
