Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District NHIA Manager Interdicted over attempted Rape

The Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Manager, Mahama Sakara, has been asked to step aside after he was caught on tape assaulting a nurse for sex.

The Authority has said that Mr. Sakara is under investigation by the Police for alleged sexual harassment, sexual battery and attempted rape.

In a statement, the NHIA says that further action will be taken against  him even after the Police investigation.

His alleged victim, a Nurse in the Savanna Region, says Mr. Sakara tried to force himself on her after she had repulsed his advances.

Mr Sakara had visited her duty post on July 8, at about 9:00 am under the pretext of “Monitoring” but unveiled his real intention when the two were alone.

He asked for a one-time opportunity to have sex with the nurse and when the Nurse resisted by saying she was already engaged to another man, he pleaded to at least be given the opportunity to plant his tongue into her vagina.

The Nurse resisted but Sakara was on heat and so physically attempted to rape the Nurse. In the course of her resistance, his finger entered her vagina.

Unbeknownst to Sakara, the whole thing was being secretly recorded.

The Nurse in question has since reported the conduct of the NHIA district Director to the Police, with the recording attached to her statement.

The same audio clip was also attached to her petition to the NHIA which responded by asking Mr. Sakara to step aside.

“The NHIA strongly condemns all incidents of sexual harassment, sexual assault and gender-based violence in our society. The code of ethics enshrined in our conditions of service abhors such behaviour. The organization will continue to champion the cause of individuals’ rights and liberties to live and work without interference especially women,” the Authority said.
