The announcement that the Tema West Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the governing party, Carlo “Callous” Ahenkorah has tested negative for COVID-19 after he was found out to have deliberately spread Covid-19 to members of the public, has drawn serious suspicion towards the governing party.
Mr. Ahenkorah was forced out of his position as Deputy Trade Minister for his reckless exposure of unsuspecting party members and Ghanaians to his Coronavirus infection and his party is under pressure from angry party members to drop him from contesting the Tema West parliamentary seat.
According to a supposed clean bill of health that the Ghana Health Service gave Mr. Ahenkorah after his secret Covid-19 status leaked to the public, he has subsequently been tested twice and the tests have both returned negative.
The claim appeared to be purposed to lift his sinking prospects to retain his seat at Tema West.
However, the same claim that he has tested twice and been found negative has dangled question marks on the government’s claim that it has reviewed the country’s Covid-19 recovery and discharge policy.
Per the review, according to the government, rather than the requirement for two consecutive negative test results for a patient to be declared rid of the virus in their system, the government is no longer testing.
The question has now emerged as to whether the government’s new review has mutated for just Mr. Ahenkorah, particularly when the government says that it is not testing before it discharges Covid-19 patients.
Critics are questioning if it is now the government’s policy that its appointees who catch Covid-19 will be given two ascertainment tests, while ordinary citizens are allowed to go without tests.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), today, demanded answers to the question.
“Even more bizarre, ladies and gentlemen, is the conflicting signals government is communicating to the public on this matter. Whereas, government has told the public that we have reviewed our recovery and discharge policy from two (2) mandatory and confirmatory tests to zero, the same government a few days ago informed us that one of the appointees of President Akufo Addo who contracted the virus, Carlos Ahenkora, has recovered, after testing negative in two consecutive confirmatory tests,” said the NDC in a press conference today.
“…this lack of consistency in the application of government’s new recovery and discharge policy, casts serious doubts about its validity and viability and shows that same cannot be relied upon by the nation if we are serious about the COVID-19 fight.”
It is now publicly suspected that Carlos Ahenkorah’s two consecutive tests which returned negative was a hoax, aimed to help improve his sinking image in the Tema West Constituency.
It is believed that the Ghana Health Service deliberately issued the clean bill of health to the MP to help him with his campaign, but in its hurry to save the political career of Ahenkorah forgot that it has announced that the new regime is that no former COVID-19 patient is tested again.
The ruling party has responded to the suspicion claiming that the two tests by Carlos Ahenkorah from the GHS were facilitated by Ahenkorah himself.
