Tafo-Pankrono MCE Accused Of Selling Covid-19 Food At ‘Donkomi’ Prices

Municipal Chief Executive of Tafo Pankrono in the Ashanti Region, Fred Owusu Obeng, hjas allegedly Covid-19 relief t items meant for the vulnerable in the Municipality.

The items, mainly food, food had been received from government for onward distribution to the vulnerable during the lockdown.

Residents allege the MCE sold the items at very cheap prices to market women rather than sending them to the targeted vulnerable people in the Municipality.

According to reports, the MCE hid 100 crates of eggs and later directed one Charles, who is also a government appointee to the Tafo-Pankrono Municipal Assembly to sell them.

Unfortunately for Charles, who is said to be a close friend of the MCE,he was caught by some assembly members and residents in the Municipality.

In what can be described as a reduction sale, the MCE is said to have sold a crate of eggs which was supposed to be sold at Gh¢20.00 at Gh¢10.00 to the market women at Tafo market.

According to reports, the price cheaper price for the Covid-19 eggs, created confusion between the market and the assembly after the traders felt the cheaper eggs from the Assembly were selling better than what they were offering.

According to reports, bags of rice, boxes of cooking oil, and boxes of sardines were meant for the vulonerable were also diverted to the MCE’s house. He is alleged to have attempted ton placate some Assembly members with some of the diverted food after he was caught.

Presiding Member for Tafo Municipal Assembly, Hon Richard Appiah, is reported to have confirmed the issue on Silver FM’s Omanbapa morning after the story aired.
