The University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the University of Education Winneba (UEW) confirmed the highest number of fake and unverified certificates held by public sector employees.
This was revealed in an Audit Service Payroll Report, which shows that the University of Cape Coast confirmed 45 certificates as fake and a whopping 2,986 as unverified certificates among public sector workers who claimed they graduated from the university.
For the University of Education Winneba, it could not verify approximately 8,960 certificates.
From the audit, about 16 fakes certificates were attributed to the University of Ghana.
In Total, out of the 19,346 certificates assayed by the payroll report, only 7,284 confirmed as genuine, while the 12,001 remaining could not be verified.
Ironically, the Ministry of Education recorded the highest number of unverifiable certificates (11,518) with approximately 53 fakes.
Meanwhile, the Auditor-General has tasked heads of the affected Ministries, Departments and Agencies to conduct further investigations and punishment for forgeries.
