Former President John Mahama has donated towards this year’s celebration of the Eid Ul Fitr ahead of the commencement of the celebrations this weekend.
The donation is mainly food items which follows a personal tradition of donating to the Muslim Community every year – 600 bags of rice, 600 food boxes and 100 boxes of cooking oil.
Mr. Mahama who is the 2020 Flagbearer of the opposition NDC asked the National Zongo Caucus Coordinator of the party, Alhaji Mohammed Coolie Younger, to distribute the items to the various Muslim groupings.
The targeted beneficiaries include the office of the National Chief Imam, Al-Sunna, Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, the Shia, Council of Muslims Organizations and other underprivileged Muslims.
The donation brings some traditional shine to the annual Eid as the coronavirus pandemic has already been impacting negatively on the important Islamic calendar event.
