10 Inmates Of Ashaiman Police Cell Test Positive For Coronavirus

Ten inmates of the Ashaiman Police cells have reportedly tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.

Their status is said to have become known after a random test of inmates of the cells.

Altogether, the reports indicate, samples of 54 people have been taken and it is out of this number that testing showed that 10 are carrying the deadly virus.

The affected inmates have reportedly been transferred to and isolation centre, but already there fears that probably those that have not yet proven negative are only late bloomers.

Samples have since been taken from Police officers with the station for testing as the officers wait with trepidation. If tests come back positive, affected officers will be isolated.

The development is coming on the heels of a lament by Supreme Court Justice nominee, Joy Henrieta Mensah Bonsu before the Appointments Committee of Parliament that Ghana’s prison facilities are too crowded.

It also comes as another nominee, Justice Clemence Hornyega has asked President Akufo-Addo to pardon prisoners who are doing time for misdemeanor in order to reduce risks of the spread of COVID-19 in the prisons.
