Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia’s recent comparison of Ghana’s power crisis under the predecessor NDC government to the current Covid-19 pandemic, in an attack on former President John Mahama, earned a scathing backlash from former Ambassador Haruna Atta.
In a write up, Haruna Atta characterizes Dr. Bawumia as the real life archetype of Squealor, the lying pig in George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm,’ and foretells that Bawumia’s latest tirade adds up to a reputation that will cost him the opprtunity to ever become a President in Ghana after Presdent Akufo Addo completes his tenure.
According to Haruna Attah, Dr. Bawumiah’s character has poisoned any possibility of attaining the high office.
In a biting comparison, Haruna Atta contrasts Bawumia with Trade Minister, Alan Kyeremateng, and concludes that Kyeremanteng is a more Presidential material than Bawumia who is hoping to take over as leader of the NPP after Akufo-Addo.
“My contribution to this badly behaved young man’s slipshod sophistry is that he should be careful. He is destroying his own political future, for if he thinks that’s what would earn him the respect of the people who really matter in the NPP, he is mistaken, and must think again. They would not need any ethnic bigotry to shunt him aside, his own un-presidential proclivities would have done him in. He has so far done nothing great and over and above the ordinary to let the NPP ennoble him over quality and more experienced people like Alan Kyeremanten,” Haruna Atta writes.
He adds that Bawumia has so poisoned his own future with lies that when the time comes, the NPP would simply shove him aside.
“And woe betide him to play the ethnic card when they show him the red card! His vice presidential stature has been so below average for anyone to consider him for anything higher.”
Haruna Atta also characterizes Bawumia as the most inglorious Vice President that Ghana has ever produced.
“If in doubt, he should check out the line-up of the Vice Presidents of the 4th Republic: Kow Nkensen Arkaah, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, John Dramani Mahama, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur. Bawumia pales so much against these giants as to make him an embarrassment. Ghanaians have not forgotten about the lies of 2016; adopting that same strategy four years later won’t wash. His crudeness, rudeness, bad manners and lack of refinement make the comparison to Squealer quite inaccurate, for as obnoxious as Squealer is, Bawumia is actually worse, He makes Squealer look good!”
Comparing Dr. Bawumia to former President John Mahama, he wrote that the former President is in a league that Bawumia absolutely falls short of, saying in constantly attacking the former President Dr. Bawumia is only disgracing himself and his family name.
“President Mahama has worked hard to earn the respect of his compatriots and the international community and no amount of Bawumlying can devalue that. What a pity, what a shame, the man cannot even discern the dishonour he is bringing to the Bawumia family name…Shame!”
Commenting on Bawumia’s comparison of the power crisis under Mahama to the current Covid-19 crisis in which he concluded that the Akufo-Addo is a better performer because he has made free electricity and water available to the citizens as an intervention, while Mahama did not, Haruna Atta said he was shocked.
“One post after the other had something to say about Squealer’s totally out of order press statement in these very trying times of a global pandemic yoking and threatening mankind’s survival. To satisfy my curiosity, I decided to check on what the fellow actually said and oh my, why, why, why?! Did he think he was being smart with his Dumsor analogy or his rattling off with his “data”? He has been called to order enough on the social and other media by people who know better so I will not go there…”
