COVID Bites Multimedia, Fires 100 Staff

Information filtering in shows that Ghanaian media giant-Multimedia Group Limited has been forced by Covid-19 to lay off about 100 of its staff, including some popular journalists.

These affected staff are expected to make their final exit by the close of this month.

Naa Ashorkor Mensah Doku, a radio host and Sammy Nii Narku Dowuona, the News Editor of Adom FM are a few prominent faces reported to have been affected by the mass retrenchment exercise.

According to insiders, Multimedia has been hit with serious financial difficulties for some time now, and has been worsened by the Covid-19 outbreak in Ghana which has crippled economic activities.

The company has reportedly struggled to pay staff salaries and that retrenchment was the best option to save its sinking fortunes.

Meanwhile, Naa Ashorkor Mensah Doku announced this morning, Wednesday, May 6, 2020, that her appointment has been terminated by the company with immediate effect.

Apparently, the whiff of a possible retrenchment was responsible for the recent resignation of very important radio hosts of Multimedia, including Ohemaa Woyeje, and Afia Pokua “Vim Lady” who had been a vociferous political show presenter on Adom FM-a subsidiary of the Multimedia Group.
