Greater Accra REGSEC Orders Mandatory Face Mask Of All In Accra

The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has issued a directive for all people in the region to wear face masks in public places.

At a meeting held this morning, the directive was adopted as part of a raft of fiats that also includes an order to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to create satellite markets for the purposes of decongesting traditional ones.

Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, who presided over the REGSEC meeting signed the directives into effect.

Per the directives, all service providers and sales companies, including banks, shops, malls and paharmacies among others, are to ensure that only persons with nose masks are admitted for transaction as a way of curbing the spread of coronavirus. These service providers are to display notices on their premises to the effect that people who do not wear masks will not be served.

Also, commercial drivers are to abide by a directive to ensure that only passengers who wear nose masks are admitted on board vehicles.

The various MMDAs are to lead the way in the practice of social distancing and safety protocols by instituting same at their various offices. They are also to mount Public Address Systems in the various markets for the purposes of educating traders on social distancing and hygiene protocols.

As they create satellite markets for the purposes of decongesting the main markets, they are to ban all special market days until further notice, according to the directives from REGSEC.

The Greater Accra REGSEC’s directive on the mandatory wear of nose masks in public places follows an earlier one by the Ashanti regional REGSEC yesterday.
