MINORITY “EYE-RED” On GHC 1.2 billion Covid-19 Fund

The Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament has warned that it will follow with keen eyes how the Akufo Addo administration spends the GH¢1.2 billion funds allocated for the Coronavirus Alleviation Programme (CAP).

The Minority says it cannot trust the government with such an amount given past track record on how similar funds have been misappropriated.

Member for Yapei Kusawgu and a Minority member of the Finance Committee, John Jinapor, warned that the Minority will not tolerate arbitrary expenditures that will not benefit the people.

From the amount, the government says it will spend some GH¢280 million on food packages for the vulnerable in the society; GH¢40 million will be used to stock the National Buffer Stock Company while GH¢200 million will be used to absorb bills on water and sanitation. The remaining amount would reportedly be used to cover tax waivers for health personnel at the frontline of the Covid-19 fight.
