An unidentified officer of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has shot a policewoman in the legs in what authorities claim is an “accidental discharge.
Lance corporal Francisca Tenge who was shot this morning, Thursday, April 9, 2020, was on duty with the trigger-happy soldier at the Tema New Town checkpoint.
This will be the second recorded shooting by soldiers poured on the streets to enforce the lockdown directives against Covid-19. The first case happened in Ashaiman where a soldier in a struggle with a civilian, shot him dead at close range.
According to reports from the Tema New Town incident, the soldier who was on night duty was allegedly fidgeting with his assault rifle when it suddenly went off and planted some unwanted bullets in the legs of a terrified Lance Corporal Tenge.
The policewoman has since been rushed to the Tema General Hospital where is reportedly responding to treatment.
According to the Medical Superintendent at the Tema General Hospital, Dr Richard Anthony, the injury is a minor.
Meanwhile, the excuse of “accidental discharge” has not stopped the police administration from launching an investigation into the matter as the soldier faces detention at the guard room at the Eastern Naval Command in Tema.
