Nigerian actress fined $260 for party during coronavirus lockdown

Prominent Nigerian actress Funke Akindele has been found guilty of “violating [coronavirus] restriction orders” in the commercial capital, Lagos, a police statement says.

She was charged alongside her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello, who was also found guilty.

They were accused of holding a party in their home.

Akindele and her husband will now have to each pay a $260 (£210) fine and do 14 days of community service.

They have been told to “visit 10 important public places within Lagos State to educate the public on the consequences of non-compliance with the restriction order”.

They also have to submit the names and contacts of all the guests at the party and the police say they have launched a manhunt for them.

One of those who was at the party, singer Naira Marley, was already in police custody, police said.
