The Managing Director of Ghana union Assurance Company Mrs. Aretha Duku has appealed to the public to follow the COVID-19 precautionary measures, as best way to avert the spread of Corona virus in Ghana.
Speaking in a short ceremony to donate to the Pamela Bridgewater project programs, to cater for the wellbeing of kayayei’s at both Mamobi and Kejetia Kayayei center, during and after the COVID-19 lockdown.
Madam Aretha, praised the strategic programs of the government and civil societies for the relief of the citizenry by stating ‘’ leadership is no easy task, particularly during crises ‘’
She therefore called for coordination of various groups to ensure corona free Ghana.
The gender activist, urged the public to show compassion to head potters, popularly known as kayayei, who have migrated from the northern part of Ghana to big cities notable Accra, Kumasi, Tema, Takoradi etc., In search of non-existent jobs. Stressing that ‘’for no fault of theirs, they’ve found themselves on the streets, its only imperative to extend our motherly or fatherly care to these girls’’ she advised.
Mr .Yahaya Alhassan, the project director for the Pamela Bridgewater project, in expressing appreciation to Ghana union Assurance Company for supporting deprived girls commended Madam Aretha Duku, for her tireless effort of shaping the insurance landscape of Ghana.
Adding that, the public address system for the Kumasi-kejetia kayayei resettlement, would be effectively utilized towards the sensitizations and precautionary measures to be taken by these girls. He continued that ‘’ the education would benefit the market women and traders, which would be extended, after the lockdown’’
Mr. Alhassan, called on private and public institutions to extend support to what he called the vulnerable segment of the Ghanaian populace.
The Bridgewater project provides future and welfare to head potters, popularly known as kayayei through education and training, protection, advocacy, research etc.
