Trigger-Happy Soldier In Ashanti Put Under Probe

The Ashanti Regional Military high command has said that the soldier who was captured in a video cocking his gun at a civilian will be put under investigation.

Operations commander at the Central Command, Col. Emmanuel Opare Nyanteh, says the video footage is being studied as part of preparations to start a probe.

“We are going to look at whatever happened, those involved will be sanctioned. However I still say that we need to comply with the directives so that we don’t need to get to this point,” he said.

He, however, expressed disappointment that the military officer had been provoked by the civilian involved in the near shooting event. “Why should a citizen be bold enough to punch a military person?”

The civilian, involved is seen in the video footage fleeing as the angered officer chased after him with the cocked gun.

The video footage showed the officer illegally subjecting the civilian to corporal punishment   for apparently violating the presidential order to stay at home, the military says that the civilian was the agent provocateur.

In reaction to the punishment, the frustrated civilian threw a punch at the soldier in anger, provoking him into cocking his gun and chasing after the civilian.
