Police-beating DCE Lodges Complaint Over Assault

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, Christian Adu Poku has lodged an assault complaint at the Ashanti Regional Police headquarters against a group of Police officers deployed to enforce the two-week lockdown of the country.

In demonstration of clear intention to press charges, the DCE reported the officers who allegedly beat him for daring to ask them to observe social distancing protocols.

However, a video making circulation on social media shows the said police officers complaining that the DCE had rather assaulted them.

Deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP David Agyemang Agyem, confirmed that his office has received the complaint and will be launching an investigation.

Hon. Christian Adu Poku is said to have come across a Police vehicle crammed with officers who had been deployed to enforce the two-week partial lockdown in the Ashanti Region, and asked why the Police were not observing social distancing protocols that doctors have prescribed.

This is said to have angered the officers who then alighted from the vehicle and attacked him. It is not clear if the officers were not aware that he was the DCE for Afigya Kwabre South.

The alleged assault of the DCE adds to many reports of suchlike Police brutalities against civilians in carrying out the enforcement of the lockdown directives.
