The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) is asking all landlords, property owners and landladies in the country to provide information on tenants who arrived in the country from abroad between 3rd and 23rd March.
In a release, the GIS said that the purpose of the demand is to enable the Service track down all such persons for the Ghana Health Service so the GHS can test them for the Coronavirus and also trace all people who have been in contact with them.
“The Ghana Immigration Service urges all property owners and landlords to immediately furnish the service with information on their tenants, ie Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians.
“This is for those who travelled into the country from 3rd to 23rd of March 2020.
“This is to enable the GIS to effectively and efficiently identify such individuals through contact tracing for the Ghana Health Service to assess and manage them,” the released said.
Signed by the GIS Head of Public Affairs, Supt Michael Amoako Atta, it warned that landlords and property owners who fail to comply will be dealt with according to law.
“Failure to adhere to this directive and found culpable will attract severe sanctions in accordance with the laws of the country.”
Ghana is currently under a two-week partial lockdown as part of measures to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus. The lockdown period is planned to be used for aggressive tracking and testing of people especially those who recently travelled into the country for the virus.
The country has a case count of 198 with 5 deaths, and 33 recoveries.
