Immigration Deploys 3,500 Personnel To Enforce Covid-19 Partial Lockdown

The Ghana Immigration Service has deployed a total of 3,500 personnel around Greater Accra and the Greater Kumasi area, as part of the national security taskforce to enforce the partial lockdown of the country.

Under ‘Operation COVID Safety’, 1,100 of the personnel are to beef-up the taskforce strength at the borders with 400 personnel joining the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to enforce law and order.

2,000 personnel are assisting the Ghana Health Service to trace and test individuals who traveled into the country between 3 rd and 23 rd March of this year.

Briefing the personnel last Sunday during the deployment at its National Headquarters in

Accra, the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi, urged the personnel to be guide by professionalism in the line of duty.

He urged them to imprint further, the image of the Ghana Immigration as a very relevant institution to the safety and development of the country.

“Today, our relevance and contribution to security and socio-economic development of the country is now appreciated more than ever,” he said.

The CGI admonished strict adherence to safety and hygiene practices by the personnel.
