Health workers on the frontline each in the fight against the deadly COVID-19 coronavirus will enjoy up to GHC 25,000 insurance for eventualities that may befall them in the line of duty, the Ministry of Health has revealed.
The government is paying a premium of GHC 10 million to approximately 10,000 health workers earmarked for the fight against Covid-19.
The workers for instance will be entitled to GHC10,000 on temporary disability, GHC 25,000 for critical illness in their lines of duty.
In a communique to the government agencies, Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu thanked the frontline workers and their families for their sacrifice to the nation during this critical period.
Ghana is currently racing against time to contain the rapidly spreading cases of the deadly Covid-19 in the country.
In less than three weeks, Ghana’s confirmed cases have shot up from two to 152 at a rate of 5.6% of the over 2,000 cases tested so far.
Globally, the pandemic appears not to have an end in sight after it has racked up a death toll of about 33,000 and has infected more than 600,000 currently.
The United States currently has the highest infection rate with over 123,000 infections while Italy comes close with some 92,000 infections.
China where the deadly disease originated has stopped recording new cases as other countries race to overtake its figures that now stands at 81,000 infection rate and some 3,300 deaths.
Italy has the highest number of recorded deaths-at 10,023 deaths according to globally verified statistics.
