Annual Kwahu Easter Jamboree In Limbo As Traditional Council Proscribes Visitors

The Kwahu Traditional Council has asked visitors to the area, including natives who are non-resident as of today, to stay away from the area until further notice.

A statement from the Council issued Thursday said the measure is aimed at keeping the deadly Covid-19 disease away from the area which has an ageing population.

It said the proscription had been decided on after the Traditional Council met with the Kwahu Covid-19 team, which is an advisory body on the town’s response to the deadly pandemic.

The Council directed all natives and residents of Kwahu who are currently out of the area, “to continue to stay wherever they may be, in the weeks to come and postpone all planned visits to Kwahu until further notice.

“Kwahus living in Kwahu should remain in Kwahu. No travelling outside of Kwahu until the pandemic is contained,” the statement read.

The measure almost certainly puts a nail in the coffin of this year’s edition of the Kwahu Easter festivities, which is a popular calendar event.

Ghana’s total infections have risen to 132 with indications that the caseload will keep on towards an upward trajectory as this year’s Easter month, April, approaches from just a week away.
