The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has warned that it has not been equipped with the necessary tools and education to contain an outbreak of the deadly corona virus in the event of such an occurrence.
In an interview monitored by WhatsUp News, Vice Chair Nkrumah Circle GPRTU, Odorna Branch, Alhaji Issa Mohammed, said the Union would be helpless and overwhelmed in any such eventuality.
“We can’t do anything about it unless the government, because here is a public place. At the end of the day thousand people will come. God forbid, but let’s take it if somebody has the virus here, what advice, what experience, what can he do. We can’t do anything. But we hear that they say we should find sanitizer.”
“The government or the Municipal Assembly that controls here supposed to come and educate us more,” Alhaji Issa said.
The lamentation is coming a day after President Akufo-Addo announced the allocation of US$100million as war chest against the virus which has invaded all of Ghana’s neighbors.
The GPRTU is home to the majority of commercial vehicles and drivers who service the transpiration needs of the public.
