Panic In Kumasi Over Return Of Self-Quarantined Chinese National From China

There is panic in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, after a Chinese businessman returned from a trip to his country and quarantined himself.

Only known as David, the man has kept away from the public after returning from Quangzhou, 980 kilometers away from Wuhan, the epicenter of the corona virus outbreak.

Many fear that the man, who is actually doing the right thing by isolating himself for the mandatory 14 days, is a carrier and may spread his suspected infection.

However, the Ghana Health Service’ outgoing regional director for technical care, Dr. Adomaku Boateng, has said the fears of the people of Kumasi are not very justified.

“We have really what we call case definition and this is what people should know so that we don’t go into that panic state whereby we  are sitting on the edge for example if you know that you have been exposed, then self-quarantine is the way.”

According to him, what the businessman is doing is the right thing and that Ghanaians should rather give the better part of their alert to avoiding shaking hands.

Ghana has developed a heightened sense of caution after African countries, including Nigeria, confirmed infections from Covid 19.
