Kwasi Nyantakyi Finally Charged For Fraud -In US$ 12 million bribe attempt on President Akufo Addo & Co.

Former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi has been slapped with three charges of fraud by the Accra High Court, today, March 4, 2020.

The disgraced former GFA capo is in the docks with another-a former member of the GFA’s Executive Committee Abdulai Alhassan, who also faces two charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and fraud.

Mr Nyantakyi and his accomplice are currently on a GHC1 million bail each with three sureties. They are also required to report every Friday at the police CID. The case has been adjourned to March 25 for case management conference.

Kwasi Nyantakyi was exposed in an undercover documentary (Number 12) by ace investigative journalist, Ana Aremeyaw Anas. He was caught demanding some $12 million from supposed investors to be used to bribe President Akufo Addo, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the Minister of Roads and Highways and several other top government appointees, to clinch juicy government contracts.

According to Principal State Attorney Victoria Asiedua in court, the racketeers were confident enough to execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the transaction.

The bribe cache was specifically allocated, with US $5 million set aside for President Akufo Addo; US$3 million for Vice President Bawumia; U$2 million for the Roads and Highway’s Minister; $1 million for his Deputy and the rest reserved for Mr Nyantakyi and Mr Alhassan.

Since the documentary, the Akufo Addo administration has been under pressure to institute punitive action against the influence peddlers as critics suspect a possibility of validity in Nyantakyi’s boast to the investors used to set him up.

The charges against him include conspiracy to commit fraud, fraud and corruption by a public officer.
