Health Minister Updates Parliament On Ghana’s Preparedness For Corona Virus

Health Minister, Kweku Agyemang Manu, for the second time in two weeks, appeared before Parliament today to nupdate the House on Ghana’s state of preparedness in the event of a spread of the deadly corona virus outbreak to the country.

Parliament had summoned the Minister again after countries in Africa, including Ghana’s kissing cousin, Nigeria, reported infections.

Mr. Agyemang Manu told the House that as part of the preparations, a health emergency committee, which reports directly to President Akufo-Addo has been set up.

Government has also brought in 5,000 protective equipment that have been distributed to frontline health personnel across the country.

Also, he said, a 100-bed facility is to be ready in two weeks to serve as isolation facility for quarantines in the event of outbreaks.

Hon. Kweku Agyemang Manu said there has also been an overall improvement in the screening and monitoring regimes at the various borders and entranceways into the country.

The Minister’s update is coming at a time that the global death toll from the deadly viral outbreak is over 3,000.

Also, the outbreak which started in Wuhan China is now in Africa with Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal and Nigeria all confirming infections.
