Sole Factory In Cape Coast shuts down, Despite 1D1F

While the Akufo Addo administration is pledging commitment to its flagship One District One Factory (1D1F) policy, some existing manufacturing factories are closing down for what they describe as unfavourable economic conditions. The latest to close down under bizarre conditions is Ameen Sangari Industries, a popular soap producer and the only manufacturing plant in Cape Coast in the Central Region Workers turned up for work on Monday morning to read notices that the factory had been closed down until further notice. There was no prior indication that the factory would be closed down, Whatsup News gathered. The company’s management consequently directed that the stunned workers be paid their February salaries while they work on their severance packages. Sources say, the company was forced to close down after dozens of workers last month (February, 2020) staged a demonstration to press home their demand for payment of salary arrears and redundancy packages. The Lebanese-owned company manufactures soaps, detergents, polish, perfumes and Palm oil. The company also processes of teak into electric poles, has been in existence for over 100 years and is the oldest manufacturing company in the Central Region.
