There has been shortage of kontonmire (cocoyam leaves) in some markets in the nation’s capital.
Although the food item is in high demand, consumers have had to struggle in search for it on the market.
Due to the shortage, the prices of the few ones available have also shot up.
Some of the markets visited by Laudbusiness.com on Sunday, March 1 were the Tabora, Mile 7, Chantan and Achimota markets.
Rather than the original GHS 2 price, the food item is now being sold for GHS5 due to the shortage.
“We don’t have too many of this on the market and so the prices will definitely go up,” a trader at the Chantan market said.
Another trader at Mile 7 market, said it is not only kontonmire that is facing shortage but also Turkish berry (abeduru).
