Frimpong Boateng, Ewusi Took Ghc25,000 Per Excavator-Ken Agyapong

Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has alleged that Minister for Environment and Science, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, indeed sold excavators confiscated from illegal miners.

As the mystery of the whereabouts of some of the excavators continue, the Assin Central MP reveals that the sector Minister’s denial of knowledge of the whereabouts of the excavators and his enlistment of Police help to find them are all antics.

Mr. Agyapong told journalists at Parliament today that Mr. Ekow Ewusi, the Central Regional Chairman of the ruling NPP who is the main suspect in the case of the excavators, was indeed a collaborator of the Minister who is also the Chairamn of the Inter-Ministerial Committee On Illegal Mining.

“I just don’t talk. I want you to realise that I’m not creating problems for your radio station. My own Chairman, Dankwa Smith (Bute) in Central Region, he first introduced Ekow Ewusi to me. For every excavator, Ekow Ewusi and Frimpong-Boateng charged GHS25,000”, Mr Agyapong said ahead of the State of the Nation Address.

According to him, he has in his possession, receipts covering GHS75,000 that was paid for three of the excavators, “but they did not give the machines to them”.

The Assin Central lawmaker also claimed one Adusei had receipts covering some GHS50,000 he paid for two excavators which were not released to him.

The revelation contradicts Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s stance that allegations that he is involved in the sale of the excavators are false. The Minister has even written to the Police to help unravel the mystery behind the loss of the excavators.

Meanwhile, Prof. Frimpong Boateng has also denied that his nson, Joojo, was involved in illegal mining popularly known as ‘Galamsey.’

“He is not. He is not involved in anything and the world will get to know very soon.”

The Minister has also vowed not to resign his portfolio over the scandal in which the government is looking for excavators like a needle in a hay stack.
