Former President John Mahama has dismissed circulating reports suggesting that he will today announce his running mate for the 2020 elections via a Facebook live address.
Links to the purported address has gone viral on several social media platforms. The viral circulation is accompanied by photos of potential candidates for his running mate.
However, responding to the development on Facebook, the NDC flagbearer said the
process of nominating a running has not been exhausted yet, indicating that the
viral circulations are just wild speculations.
“The selection of a running mate is done by the Presidential Candidate of the
National Democratic Congress (NDC) in consultation with the Council of Elders
and the National Executive Committee of the Party. There has been no
meeting of either of the two bodies called for this purpose. How would any
person believe that I am going to announce a running mate at 5 pm today?”.Mr.
Mahama fired back.
Already, several names have popped up concerning likely candidates to partner him, including the former Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Alex Mould, the current General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Dr. Zenator Rawlings, the Daughter of ex-President Jerry Rawlings among several others.
