Akufo-Addo Dashes Ag. IGP Two Years Contract

News has hit town that President Akufo-Addo has initiated moves to confirm Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP James Oppong Boanuh as the substantive chief Constable of the Ghana Police Service.

According to the claims, the President has submitted the name of the Acting IGP to the Council of State for substantiation and for an extension of his retirement by two more years.

This move will make COP Oppong-Boanuh the next substantive IGP with a potential contract extension by two years after his retirement.

COP Oppong Boanuh became Acting IGP on July 22nd after former IGP, David Asante Appeatu had been fired.

Originally, COP Boanuh was to retire in October 2018, but was given a contract extension to October 2019 by President Akufo-Addo. Now if he becomes IGP, he will stay on for two more years in an upgraded position as Chief Constable.

Meanwhile President Akufo-Addo is also said to have nominated COP Christian Tetteh Yohonu, current Director General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), for the position of Deputy IGP.
