“Kitchen Knife” COUP STORY FAILS LITMUS TEST- -Security Experts suspect Hoax

The alleged Coup plotters.

Security Experts have rubbished the shocking Monday afternoon announcement by the Akufo Addo Administration that it had foiled an attempted coup plot against the Presidency.

Critics say the rusty weapons found for the alleged coup d’état could hardly be used to hunt squirrels.

Whatsup News spoke to a few security experts who would not want their identities revealed because of their positions. They claim the announcement contained in a statement by the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah did not add up.

According to the experts, the statement from Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah was completely vague on how the recovered Kitchen Knife, locally manufactured guns, a few AK 47 magazines and about four canisters of smoke grenades would be successful in overthrowing President Akufo Addo in what would have been the most suicidal coup d’état ever.

In sync with these doubts expressed by the security experts, a retired Major in the Ghana Army and one of the most successful coup plotters in Ghana, Kwadwo Boakye Gyan has laughed off the government’s announcement as mere scaremongering.

According to Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah’s statement, the main culprits of the questionable coup d’état: one Dr Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, Dornyah “Ezor” Kafui, a local gunsmith and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu aka BB or ADC, a freight manager, in August 2018 recruited military officers to participate in the coup.

“Any serious person making a coup will not go and contact military personnel asking them to supply you weapons, they will report you and you’ll be in trouble. You have to be in charge of the resources that you’re going to use for the coup before you can qualify such a move as coup making… “They should not make staging coups look so cheap, you don’t make coups with pistols and all that kind of stuff,” Boakye Gyan sneered at the story.

Another security expert who has publicly chided the government over the coup story is Col. (Rtd) Festus Aboagye, a former Colonel in the Ghana Army who insists the kitchen knife and other crude locally manufactured weapons cannot be for an elaborate coup d’état as the government is alleging.

A security analyst and CEO of Security Warehouse Limited told Accra-based Joy FM that the rusty weapons busted by the joint tactical teams of the security agencies can hardly be effective in hunting squirrels in the Dodowa forest in the Greater Accra Region.

In Ghana, coup plot is a treasonable crime punishable by death, yet the latest information picked up by Whatsup News indicates that the three alleged conspirators were today September 24, 2019 arraigned before court but were surprisingly slapped with five simple charges such as conspiracy to manufacture arms and ammunition without lawful authority and possession of explosives and firearms without lawful excuse.

The plot gets even murkier as the lawyer for the accused Victor Adawudu have stated that his clients have denied knowledge of the said weapons being attributed to them, and that interrogators never mentioned a coup d’etat when they were picked up.

“They have confirmed it [the weapons] was found on the premises but as to who owns it, they don’t know. They don’t have an idea,” Mr. Adawudu told CITI FM

Meanwhile, the government has become a subject of serious ridicule on social media as a new coup challenge with hilarious “weapons” are being paraded.

Critics believe that the Akufo Addo administration probably cooked up the coup story to divert attention from the corruption and security lapses it has been on the spotlight for in the past few months.

The Executive Secretary of the Bureau of Public Safety, Nana Yaw Akwada is demanding further details about the circumstances surrounding the purported plot.
