A photojournalist from the Multimedia Group has been attacked in the latest of targeted attacks on journalists in Ghana.
Multimedia’s award-winning journalist, David Andoh was reportedly attacked by an Assemblyman at Mantse Agbona, a slum at James Town in Accra while capturing visuals of filth during the media house’s ‘Clean Ghana’ campaign
Whatsup News gathered that the attacker is one James Addo (aka Zola), an Assemblyman in the area. He allegedly smashed the Journalist’s camera and slapped him demanding that the team leave the area in a show of impunity that has characterised the recent spate of attacks on the Ghanaian media.
The rampaging attacker is reported to have subsequently mobilised an angry mob to launch further attacks that forced the police officers accompanying the media team to call for reinforcement.
James Addo allegedly fled the scene on a motorbike after the attack.
This latest attack stacks up the number of journalists from multimedia and other media houses who have been brutally attacked in the past few months.
Both individuals and others linked to the government have been part of these onslaughts as Ghana gradually reinforces its image as one of the most dangerous countries in Africa for journalists to operate.
