Mobile Money Clocks GH¢3bn With Banks

The total value of mobile money funds currently lodged in the vaults of commercial banks in Ghana has topped an excess of GHC 3 billion. This amount realised by the close of June 2019, makes Ghana one of the most lucrative mobile money markets in Africa.

Latest statistics released by the Bank of Ghana covered entire mobile money payments and electronic transactions over the last seven years. 

The data showed that the value of mobile money transactions was GH¢140 billion ending June 2019, compared to GH¢104 billion for the same period last year. 

When it came to the total Mobile Money accounts in the country, the Bank of Ghana puts the value at GH¢12.9 million ending June this year, up by 9 per cent.  

Active mobile money agents also stood at 180 000 for the first half of 2018, representing a 4 per cent jump. 

Meanwhile, the latest statistics on the value of mobile voice subscription-based on figures from the National Communication Authority (NCA) was GH¢40.9 billion.
